Mukteshwar Temple of Shiva


Mukteshwar temple is a famous Hindu temple. It is one of the most sacred places around Pathankot of Punjab. These cave Temples are on the way to Shahpur Kandi and This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is situated on the bank of the River Ravi. The temple is also known as the Shri Mukesran Mandir. A mela, called the Mukesran Da Mela, is held every year, in the month of April, to mark Baisakhi.

These caves which date to the time of the great epic Mahabharata. According to a legend, the Pandavas stayed in these caves for a while during their "Agayatwas"  and is believed to have served as the house of the Pandavas, during their exile. Situated at the hilltop, Shri Mukteshwar temple has a white marble Shiva linga, with a copper Yoni. The Shiva linga is surrounded by the idols of Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, Goddess Paravati, Lord Hanuman and Lord Ganesh.



Every year there is a big festival on day Maha Shivratri and after one month of Maha Shivratri there is three day festival Chodiya Amavasya and also Navarathri and Beshaki festival.
