Bhubaneswar to have 3 more cyber police stations

BHUBANESWAR: After last month's official notification on the establishment of cyber police stations in Berhampur, Sambalpur and Rourkela , the state government has identified three more cities — Bhubaneswar, Jeypore and Balasore — for the setting up of police stations to deal exclusively with IT offences.

The proposal awaits the approval of chief minister Naveen Patnaik , who is also in charge of the home department.

The decision to set up cyber police stations in different districts was taken in 2014-2015 to ease pressure on the only cyber police station in Cuttack that functions under the state crime branch.

According to the Newspaper,"If we open cyber police stations in different districts, victims need not visit Cuttack to lodge their complaints. We have been regularly conducting training programmes for our personnel so that they learn the skills to crack IT-related offences," he said.

Sources said the government wanted two cyber police stations in Bhubaneswar. While one will function under the commissionerate police, the other will be monitored by the crime branch
