Odisha records 17 per cent growth in sea food export in 2016-17

BHUBANESWAR: Odisha recorded 17 per cent growth in sea food export in the last fiscal year. Total sea foods exported from Odisha in 2016-17 is around Rs 2205 crore, official sources said.

According to an official statement, Odisha exported sea foods worth 41828 metric tonne (MT) during 2016-17 as compared to 35,630 MT in 2015-16 financial year. There has also been 18 per cent growth last year in total fish production.

To further boost the export, the chief secretary directed the department to put modern facilities at the landing harbours and to functionalize all facilities including auctioning and trading activities at the landing harbours.




To ensure safety and security of fishermen in the state,  chief secretary A P Padhi directed the fisheries department to fix Distress Alert Transmitters (DATs) in all motorized boats.

During distress, government can came in rescue of the fishermen with the help of marine police or Coast guard.
